The IndexNow ZipTie Bot

When you ask indexnow.com to check a sitemap or a key file, a small bot fetches that one address for you. This page explains what it does.

What it does

  • Its user agent is Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; IndexNow ZipTie Bot; +https://indexnow.com/bot).
  • It fetches only a sitemap or key file URL that a visitor typed into the tool, once per check.
  • It does not crawl. It does not follow links on your pages.
  • It does not read robots.txt for those requests, because the visitor asked us to fetch their own file.
  • It follows at most 3 redirects, reads at most 20 sitemap files per check and uses ports 80 and 443 only.

How to block it

Return a 403 response to requests with the user agent above. Doing so means visitors cannot check that site's key file or sitemap with this tool, and so cannot submit its URLs here.
